Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Math Specialist for Grades 5-8, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. This position presents an opportunity to make a direct impact on students who need targeted support and to collaborate with other educators to strengthen math instruction across the school.

The Math Specialist for the middle grades must possess a thorough understanding of current mathematics pedagogy, assessment, and evidence-based intervention strategies. The successful candidate will analyze data and collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals to support students' mathematical success and educator effectiveness.
Primarily, the Math Specialist will be responsible for providing intensive, specialized instruction to students who require Tier 2b and 3 support in foundational numeracy and mathematical reasoning. They must have the ability to diagnose specific mathematical gaps and determine appropriate interventions for individual students and for the school as a whole. The role balances direct student intervention with collaboration with district leaders and team teachers to support strong instruction in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnostic Assessment: Analyze data from universal screeners and administer diagnostic assessments to identify students who require intensive Tier 3 math intervention.
Instructional Planning: Develop and implement individualized math intervention plans tailored to specific student deficits.
Targeted Intervention: Utilize evidence-based interventions to support student progress in mathematical fluency and problem-solving.
Progress Monitoring: Monitor and track student growth through frequent, valid assessments to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
Collaborative Coaching: Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to align intervention goals with core instruction and WIN block practices.
Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding students' progress and offer strategies for home support.
Data Coordination: Facilitate data-informed meetings designed to analyze and respond effectively to grade-level and school-wide trends
Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention hours, and services provided.
Professional Leadership: Collaborate with administration and curriculum colleagues to design professional learning opportunities for teachers regarding best practices in tiered interventions.
General Support: Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field; Master’s degree in Mathematics Education or related field preferred.
Licensure: Licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in Mathematics (5-8) or Mathematics/Science (5-8).
Experience: Proven experience teaching mathematics and providing math intervention at the middle school level.
Pedagogical Knowledge: Deep understanding of evidence-based math instruction, the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks, and tiered intervention strategies.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills with an ability to coach adult learners.
Analytical Skills: High proficiency in assessment administration and data analysis to inform instructional decisions.
