POSITION: LTS Student Support Specialist
Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Student Support Specialist for Shrewsbury High School. This position works Monday through Friday, from 7:40am-2:50pm, when school is in session. Position begins as soon as possible and is expected to last 4-6 weeks. Pay will range from $35.04-$42.71 per hour, based on relevant experience.
This position is responsible for working with students who might be at-risk and/or struggling academically and need support to help ensure their academic success. The coordinator will provide students with assistance in the areas of academic achievement, college awareness/readiness/access, school success (attendance, behavior, personal, and social issues), and life-skills such as organization skills, time management, individual and social responsibility and work ethic.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Work with the Student Support Team, to help students who experience significant barriers to completing graduation requirements
Coordinate and supervise academic support classes
Monitor individual student progress
Support and build upon students’ organizational, note taking and study
skills through specific lessons
Serve as a liaison between students and teachers
Work with students to investigate educational options and explore career
goals
Evaluate attendance on a daily basis
Maintain accurate data, records and case management files to document all activities conducted and services provided
Preferred Qualifications:
Patience and strong interpersonal skills working with a variety of stakeholders, including teenage students, parents/guardians, faculty, and school administration
Background of working as an instructional or child specific aide, tutor, teacher, or in social work/psychology
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related fields
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of 504 students plans
Able to quickly assimilate and learn high school and job specific routines
