SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Dock Manager is responsible for maintaining the overall operations of the dock at the Shreve Memorial Library Support Services Center and receives and inspects shipments; coordinates returns; purchases janitorial supplies; assists with tracking and making arrangements for the distribution of janitorial and program supplies; delivery of furniture and other equipment and performs related and other work as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Training and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of paid, full-time experience in shipping/receiving, warehouse, or dock operations.
- Must be able to operate a pallet jack.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Training and Experience
- Experience with Microsoft Word.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with sending and receiving emails.
- Experience managing supply inventories.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of:
computers and computer software.
Working knowledge of:
- Shipping and receiving and dock management;
- Packing slips and related dock paperwork;
Skills to:
- understand and follow complex written and oral instructions;
- use resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, and respect in dealing professionally with delivery drivers, as well as library employees and vendors;
- deal with multiple and extra unexpected tasks simultaneously;
- create and maintain courteous, pleasant impressions of the library;
- make decisions based on established policies and practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, twist, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, and crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds and push and/or pull loaded pallets weighing 1,500 pounds using a pallet jack. The employee must frequently push and/or pull loaded dollies or carts weighing up to 250 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments; verify contents and report discrepancies.
- Manage deliveries and enforce dock safety rules with vendors and drivers.
- Track expected deliveries and coordinate scheduling with vendors and internal departments.
- Order and stock office, janitorial, and library program supplies.
- Prepare and process outgoing shipments via UPS and FedEx
- Deliver and organize supplies within the Support Services Center
- Assist with the assembly, delivery, and tracking of furniture and large equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dock and work area
- Perform occasional heavy lifting, loading, and use of hand tools or equipment
- Follow all established safety guidelines and procedures
- Perform other necessary duties as required.
PRESENT SCHEDULE [subject to change without notice]:
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (with ½ hour unpaid lunch)

A criminal background check, drug screening, and Fitness for Duty test are part of the pre-hire process. The State of Louisiana Revised Statute 15:587.1.1 requires fingerprinting by local law enforcement and background checks by the Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information and these checks will be conducted on a yearly basis for positions which provide outreach to daycare centers. A mandatory full day orientation is part of the new hire process; these orientations are scheduled on Tuesdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
