Position Summary:

The IT Technician plays a key role in maintaining and supporting the district's technology infrastructure, including hardware, software, and network systems. This position works closely with staff, faculty, and other IT personnel to ensure the efficient and effective operation of technology tools and platforms. In addition to providing technical support, the IT Technician will assist the IT Director with the development, implementation, and refinement of IT strategies and solutions that align with the district’s goals for both classroom instruction and school operations. The IT Technician is involved in driving the adoption of new IT solutions, collaborating with internal stakeholders, and gathering feedback to make improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • CompTIA A or similar IT certification preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or a similar role.
  • Proficient in Windows, Mac, and Chromebook operating systems.
  • Basic understanding of network infrastructure and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with setting up and configuring computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage projects from start to finish.

Core Job Functions:

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide first-level technical support for hardware and software issues, including troubleshooting network problems, system errors, and device malfunctions.
  • Assist with setting up, configuring, and maintaining technology tools, including computers, printers, multimedia devices, and network equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the district, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations and instruction.

Solution Management and Strategy Support:

  • Gain a deep understanding of staff and faculty needs, identifying gaps in existing solutions, and providing recommendations to improve technology use and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the IT Director to help develop and prioritize IT solutions, translating strategy into detailed requirements, workflows, and integration steps.
  • Assist with the evaluation and launch of new IT strategies, ensuring that all district staff and stakeholders are informed and engaged in the process.
  • Act as a solution advocate, building awareness and understanding of IT solutions and their impact on classroom instruction and school operations.
  • Use feedback from staff, faculty, and other stakeholders to inform continuous improvements and adjustments to technology solutions and workflows.

System Maintenance and Updates:

  • Install, configure, and update software and hardware across district devices and systems.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of district technology, performing routine maintenance to prevent downtime and ensure systems are secure.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues related to software, network connectivity, and hardware performance.

Network and Infrastructure Support:

  • Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless networks.
  • Work closely with the IT Director to ensure network security protocols are followed and systems are protected from unauthorized access.
  • Monitor system performance, suggest improvements, and collaborate with other IT personnel to optimize the district’s infrastructure.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to understand technology needs and gather feedback to improve current IT solutions.
  • Participate in IT solution launches and assist with training staff on new systems or updates.
  • Help coordinate cross-functional teams during the implementation of new IT strategies or tools.

Security and Data Backup:

  • Assist with ensuring that district systems are protected against malware, unauthorized access, and other security risks.
  • Support data backup initiatives and ensure regular backups are performed to safeguard critical data and information.

Inventory and Asset Management:

  • Maintain accurate records of technology assets, ensuring inventory is up-to-date and devices are properly labeled.
  • Assist with the deployment, management, and disposal of district technology devices, following established procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from start to finish, ensuring that goals are met and that deadlines are adhered to.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds of computer equipment, servers, or network hardware.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and work under desks or in confined spaces for hardware installations and repairs.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time while working on computers or providing technical support.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to maintaining and setting up equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • The position is typically performed in an office or classroom setting, with occasional fieldwork to install, troubleshoot, or repair technology equipment.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to perform system updates, maintenance, or to support IT projects.
  • Work is performed under moderate physical demands, including lifting, carrying, and installation of equipment.

Job Types: Full-time, Temp-to-hire

Pay: $21.63 per hour
