Job Overview
Shovel and Thumb is seeking a skilled and reliable Customer service associate/ loader operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating heavy machinery to safely and efficiently load, unload, and transport materials within our yard. In addition to equipment operation, this position plays an important role in customer service, yard sales, and basic plant knowledge, assisting customers with material and plant selection while maintaining an organized and welcoming yard environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, interacting with customers, and being part of a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. This is a seasonal position with the opportunity to become full-time year round
This position can also include delivering bulk materials. As a Delivery Driver operating a 5-yard dump truck, you will be responsible for safely transporting and delivering materials to job sites and customers in a timely and efficient manner. This role includes loading and unloading materials, securing loads for transport, navigating routes, and maintaining clear communication with the yard and project teams. The driver is expected to perform daily vehicle inspections, ensure the truck is clean and in proper working condition, and follow all safety and traffic regulations. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to customer service are essential, as this position also involves direct interaction with customers during deliveries.
This position's work schedule is from Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00am to 6:00pm

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate loaders and forklifts to move materials, supplies, and equipment as needed
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks to ensure safe operation
- Load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, pallets, and containers
- Ensure proper placement and secure handling of all materials
- Organize and maintain yard inventory in a clean and efficient manner
Safety Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Conduct pre- and post-operation equipment inspections
- Maintain a safe working environment and report hazards immediately
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with yard staff and team members to coordinate daily operations
- Communicate effectively to ensure smooth workflow and job site efficiency
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of materials handled and equipment usage
- Assist with inventory tracking and periodic counts
- Report any incidents or safety concerns
Customer Service & Yard Sales
- Assist in loading customer orders accurately and efficiently
- Provide professional and courteous service to customers and vendors
- Support yard sales by helping customers locate products and answering basic plant and material questions
Qualifications
- Experience operating loaders, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment
- Strong understanding of safety practices and procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift 80lbs or more, move, and handle materials as needed on a daily basis
