What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Operating Officer position at ShotVet?
ShotVet is a rapidly growing, multi-state veterinary services company dedicated to making quality pet healthcare affordable and accessible. We love pets, we love people, and we believe great pet parent experiences start with great teams.
We are seeking an exceptional, hands-on Chief Operating Officer who has successfully scaled a multi-location service business through significant growth while maintaining strong performance in existing operations.
We need a strategic thinker who loves execution, builds great teams, knows the numbers, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
Our business operates primarily on weekends. The right leader genuinely enjoys being in the field on Saturdays and Sundays, supporting teams, solving problems, and driving results. This is not a Monday-through-Friday executive role.
What You'll Do- Lead Operations: Oversee day-to-day performance across a growing, multi-state service organization, with a strong presence in weekend field operations.
- Scale the Business: Launch new markets, teams, and major partnerships while maintaining the performance and profitability of existing operations.
- Build Great Leaders: Recruit, develop, motivate, and hold accountable a high-performing management team capable of supporting substantial growth.
- Drive Results: Own operational KPIs, budgets, labor productivity, margins, expense discipline, and overall operational performance.
- Create Scalable Systems: Build repeatable processes, clear ownership, and operating rhythms that allow the business to grow without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Execute the Vision: Translate company strategy into clear priorities, measurable goals, and consistent execution at every level.
- Lead with EOS: Use Rocks, Scorecards, Level 10 Meetings, and Accountability Charts to drive accountability and follow-through.
- Build for the Future: Partner directly with the CEO, CFO, and founders on strategic initiatives, organizational development, financial readiness, and long-term growth.
- Significant senior operating leadership experience in a high-growth, multi-unit consumer services business.
- Proven success scaling a business severalfold in revenue, geographic reach, and operational complexity.
- Demonstrated ability to expand rapidly while protecting existing operations, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Strong P&L management, financial analysis, budgeting, labor productivity, and margin improvement experience.
- Experience building management teams, operating systems, and accountability structures that support rapid growth.
- Familiarity with EOS or similar performance and accountability systems.
- Direct executive-level experience navigating major ownership transitions, strategic transactions, and institutional investment processes, including financial and operational diligence, management presentations, and working with external advisors.
- An analytical, independent, strategic problem-solver who makes decisions, challenges assumptions, and follows through.
- A hands-on leader who is equally comfortable in the boardroom and working alongside frontline teams on a busy weekend.
- A genuine love for pets, people, and the mission of making pet healthcare more accessible.

The Right FitWe are looking for a leader who combines strategic thinking with relentless execution. Someone who has built businesses, developed strong leaders, navigated significant growth, and understands that great operations require both discipline and heart.
This person doesn't manage exclusively from reports or conference rooms. They know their teams, understand the customer experience, and want to be where the action is.
Weekends are when ShotVet comes to life. We want a COO who embraces that, enjoys spending time in the field, and takes pride in helping teams deliver exceptional results.
If you're a proven builder, a natural problem-solver, a strong leader, and someone who genuinely loves pets, we'd love to hear from you.
