About the Role
Shorty’s Mexican Roadhouse is looking for an experienced, organized and dependable Part-Time Bookkeeper / Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting functions for our two restaurant locations.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of our books, payroll administration and monthly financial reporting. This is more than a basic data-entry bookkeeping position. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, identifying discrepancies and making sure ownership has accurate and timely financial information.
Restaurant or multi-location accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and administer weekly payroll and review payroll for accuracy prior to submission
- Maintain employee payroll records, pay rates and deductions
- Manage accounts payable and vendor invoices
- Perform bank and credit-card reconciliations
- Reconcile restaurant sales and deposits to Toast POS
- Work with MarginEdge and other restaurant accounting systems
- Monitor and reconcile cash activity
- Maintain accurate general ledger records
- Assist with sales-tax reporting and payments
- Perform month-end close for both restaurant locations
- Prepare monthly P&Ls and other financial reports for ownership
- Track food cost, beverage cost, labor and other key restaurant expenses
- Identify discrepancies, unusual expenses or accounting issues
- Coordinate with our outside CPA for tax preparation, year-end reporting and other accounting needs
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation
- Help improve accounting processes and internal controls
Qualifications
- 3 years of bookkeeping, accounting or similar experience
- Strong understanding of reconciliations, payroll, AP and general ledger accounting
- Experience producing monthly financial statements
- Strong Excel skills
- QuickBooks or similar accounting software experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Comfortable communicating directly with ownership and management
- High level of discretion with payroll and financial information
Restaurant, hospitality or multi-unit business accounting experience is highly preferred. Experience with Toast POS and MarginEdge is a major plus.
What We're Looking For
We want someone who takes ownership of the numbers. You should be the type of person who notices when something doesn't reconcile, investigates why and gets it corrected.
Our goal is to have accurate books throughout the month and completed financial statements shortly after each month ends—not months later.
Schedule
Approximately 20–25 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling. Additional hours may occasionally be required around payroll, month-end or year-end.
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 per week
