Position Summary
The Vice President of Academic Affairs is a senior-level administrative officer who reports directly to the President of Shorter College. This position provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for all academic programs and faculty development initiatives. Responsibilities include academic planning, institutional research, accreditation, workforce development, academic budgeting, and alignment with the mission of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the academic mission of Shorter College, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a principal advisor to the President on matters related to curriculum and instruction, faculty recruitment, assignment, development, and retention.
  • Serve as the institutional liaison for accreditation. Coordinate all accreditation-related efforts including reaffirmation, substantive changes, annual reporting, and specialized program accreditations. Ensure compliance is embedded in the institution’s planning and evaluation processes.
  • Oversee academic budget planning and financial analysis related to Institutional Effectiveness, including position management, requisitions, and long-range planning.
  • Cultivate a culture of evidence and accountability across the institution by supporting the development and assessment of institutional goals, student learning outcomes, and support service outcomes.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to implement the strategic goals of the College and its academic divisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Master's degree in higher education administration, psychology, workforce development, or a related field is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in academic affairs.
  • College-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in policy development, shared governance, accreditation processes, curriculum design, student experience, and faculty development.

  • Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capacity to inspire, motivate, and manage diverse teams in an academic setting.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities and build collaborative partnerships.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance are required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit, talk, hear, and use hands and arms regularly.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • May be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of computers, telephones, and standard office equipment.
Work Environment
This position is based on a traditional college campus environment and will require in-person presence.
