Preschool Teacher

Primary Description:
The substitute has the primary responsibility for carrying out the lesson plans of the teacher either by supporting the teacher as an aide or acting in place of an absent teacher. A substitute will work four hours per workday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The director will supervise the substitute. The substitute supervises children and parent volunteers.

Ministry Responsibilities:

• Communicate effectively with the director
• Demonstrate independence when given responsibility
• Prepare daily program materials
• Discuss any pertinent problems with the director

Teaching

• Serve as the substitute teacher for the 3’s class on Tuesdays and Thursdays or the 4’s class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
• Serve as a substitute aide for the 3’s class on Tuesdays and Thursdays or the 4’s class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

Requirements

Sufficient maturity and judgment to work independently

For a substitute teacher:

• High School graduate
• At least 18 years of age
• Minimum 12 core semester units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or Child, Family & Community
• Minimum 6 months experience working in a Child Care Center for at least 3 hrs per day for 50 days in those 6 months

- or -

• Child Development Associate Credential with appropriate age endorsement & 6 months experience

-or-

• Child Development Associate Teacher Permit/ Teacher Permit/ Master Teacher Permit

For a substitute aide:

• High School graduate
• At least 18 years of age
• At least 6 units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or Child, Family & Community
