What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Loan Underwriter position at Shoreham Bank?
Duties:
- Evaluate and assess loan applications to determine creditworthiness and risk levels
- Collect and analyze financial data, including credit reports, income documentation, and tax returns
- Review loan documents and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulations
- Collaborate with loan originators and processors to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions
- Make recommendations for loan approvals or denials based on risk assessment and analysis
- Monitor and review existing loans for compliance with terms and conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an underwriter or in a similar role within the banking, marine or mortgage industry
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and regulations
- Proficient in data collection, analysis, and quantitative research techniques
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyze complex financial information
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with loan originators, processors, and other stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and make sound underwriting decisions within established guidelines
- Familiarity with loan origination systems
- Knowledge of portfolio management principles is a plus
Qualifications:
- Marine underwriting experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop business relationships with customers, Sales/Marketing team members and coworkers
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong desire to achieve and succeed in a highly competitive market
This is not a remote position and all candidates must be available to work in our Warwick, RI office.
