Temporary Project Manager — Experiential Fabrication & Production

Shop Cat is a full-service fabrication and design shop in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We design and build custom props, fixtures, installations, and full experiential build-outs for events, brands, and retailers.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our team full-time for approximately 2–3 months. This is a temporary, mostly in-person position based out of our Brooklyn shop.

The ideal candidate has experience in fabrication, experiential production, scenic production, events, or a related field and is comfortable managing fast-moving projects from initial inquiry through fabrication, installation, and strike.

Position Overview

The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact between our clients and fabrication team. You’ll oversee projects from initial quoting and kickoff through production, installation, and strike while managing schedules, budgets, vendors, materials, and internal teams.

We’re looking for a creative problem solver who understands how things get built, communicates clearly, and can confidently make decisions in a fast-paced environment with tight turnaround schedules.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison between clients and the Shop Cat production team
• Assess incoming project inquiries and develop detailed cost estimates
• Create and manage project budgets, schedules, and production timelines
• Develop change-order estimates and communicate changes between clients and the production team
• Lead projects from kickoff through fabrication, installation, and strike
• Coordinate internal teams including technical designers, fabricators, carpenters, scenics, creative technologists, and designers
• Work across prop, carpentry, scenic, and tech departments to determine effective build approaches
• Calculate material needs, purchase materials, and coordinate with vendors
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and freelance collaborators
• Manage multiple projects and workstreams at different stages of development
• Maintain detailed project notes, records, budgets, and documentation
• Communicate and make decisions efficiently in high-pressure situations

ExperienceStrongly preferred:

• Previous experience managing fabrication, experiential, scenic, event, or custom-build projects
• Working knowledge of fabrication processes, carpentry, materials, and building techniques
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, vendors, and multidisciplinary production teams
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities

A plus:

• Experience with Rhino or other 3D/design software
• Existing relationships within the NYC fabrication, experiential, or production community

Schedule & Compensation

• Temporary full-time position, approximately 2–3 months
• Mostly in-person in Red Hook, Brooklyn
• Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm
• One-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks
• $40.60/hour
• W-2 employment
• Paid weekly via ACH
