About the Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center
The Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center (SFCCC), is a historic and mission-driven nonprofit organization serving the Bay Area for over 70 years. As the oldest Chinese language school and cultural center in Oakland, SFCCC provides Mandarin and Cantonese instruction, arts, sports, and enrichment programs to more than 500 youth each week. Rooted in cultural preservation, equity, and community leadership, the Center is dedicated to nurturing the next generation through education and service.
SFCCC is seeking a visionary and action-oriented Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth. Managing an annual budget of over $1 million and partnering closely with an engaged Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and community representation to strengthen the Center's long-term sustainability and impact.
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive leader of SFCCC, and is responsible for strategic direction, financial stewardship, organizational management, and community engagement. This role requires a dynamic communicator and culturally grounded leader passionate about youth development, Chinese language education, and strengthening the Asian American community.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Lead implementation of the Center's strategic vision in partnership with the Board.
- Provide regular reporting on financial health, program performance, and priorities.
- Identify new growth opportunities, partnerships, and initiatives.
- Foster a strong, mission-aligned organizational culture.
Financial Management & Operations
- Oversee development and management of the $1M annual operating budget.
- Ensure strong financial controls, compliance, payroll oversight, and endowment management.
- Supervise administrative systems including Salesforce and student registration.
- Oversee facility operations, safety compliance, and vendor management.
Fundraising & External Relations
- Lead grant strategy, applications, and compliance.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, foundations, and civic leaders.
- Serve as the primary public representative with media and city officials.
- Strengthen partnerships with schools and community organizations.
Educations & Program Leadership
- Collaborate with the Head Teacher on curriculum planning and innovation.
- Collaborate with the Director of Program Development on new cultural and youth programs.
- Hire, supervise, and mentor staff and instructors.
- Oversee major Center events and ensure student and staff well-being.
Communications & Community Engagement
- Oversee website, newsletters, yearbook, and promotional materials.
- Collaborate with the Director of Program Development on social media and marketing strategy and messaging.
- Build strong relationships with parents and community members.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of nonprofit experience, including 3 years in leadership.
- Experience managing a $1M operating budget.
- Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese).
- Strong financial literacy and project management skills.
- Proficiency with CRM and administrative systems (e.g. Salesforce, Quickbooks).

Compensation
Salary range: $100,000 – $120,000 (commensurate with experience).
