Shipton's Big R is a farm/ranch retail corporation that has been in business for 76 years and counting! We are seeking a Department Manager for our Animal Health Department at our Sheridan, WY location.
Job Responsibilities
- Drive Customer Service. Train department employees on F.I.R.S.T. program. Ensure department is merchandised to company standards by delegating tasks through effective communication with department employees. Effective communication usually requires a written task list that employees can continually refer to but also includes teaching, training and coaching department employees. Department Leaders are also required to perform the tasks to ensure completeness. These tasks include but are not limited to:
- Bringing freight to the department. Merchandising the product. Right Item, Right Place, Right Time and seasonally correct. Product is faced and priced correctly.
- Signage - Stay up-to-date with current and up-coming ads. Have featured merchandise signed and displayed.
- Cleaning – Dust by wiping down the product and shelves, sweep the department and take out the trash.
- Price changes - Create a weekly list of price changes for department staff.
- Sets an example for department employees by following company policies.
- Works in concert with Assistant Manager by documenting and providing information on any and all substandard performance and conduct issues. The Assistant Manager is responsible for carrying out all disciplinary actions.
- Communicates staffing needs to the Assistant Manager making sure coverage is adequate at all times paying close attention to promotional events.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with customers and department employees.
- Must have good organizational skills.
- Must have knowledge of the products in their department.
- Must be able to read and interpret basic information.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Must be able to frequently bend, stoop, reach, and stand for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally 80 pounds.
- Must be able to work with and around the products we carry including feed, seed, poultry (chickens, ducks, geese and the like) or small animals.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Computer skills with the ability to search the internet.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
