We have an exciting opportunity for a Safety Program Specialist at our Freeport, TX location!
Primary Function:
The Safety Program Specialist leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of Health and Safety programs and initiatives in support of the Site compliance programs and corporate goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position may require any of the following functions:
- Support the development, implementation and assessment of the Site Health and Safety Programs, such as LOTO, Confined Space Entry, General Chemical Hazards, Hearing Conservation, etc.
- Activities include, but are not limited to: the assessment of plant health and safety needs; development of practical, effective solutions to those needs; aiding the implementation of solutions (including training) and assessing the effectiveness of the solutions.
- Maintain established health and safety programs in accordance with the compliance calendar, ensuring reporting requirements are met and the programs remain current with updated regulations.
- Implement and monitor Company industrial hygiene (IH) programs and policies to ensure compliance.
- Research and summarize federal safety regulations and consensus industry standards based on benchmark data.
- Provide guidance on the application of health and safety programs to Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments.
- Develop technical reports to document the evaluation of workplace hazards and mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate hazards.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies as needed.
- Partners and collaborates with personnel at all levels to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Mentor contract safety personnel in further development of site safety resources.
- Serve as the primary backup to the Site Safety Manager when needed.
- Ensure compliance and understanding of safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Participates in incident investigations to identify root-cause and enact corrective actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related technical field is required. Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or other industry recognized certifications are highly preferred.
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role within the chemical, manufacturing, or oil refining industry is required.
- Experience developing, influencing, and implementing strategy
- Experience managing complex projects
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and guidelines including: OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, NIOSH, and DOT
- Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability to analyze multi-faceted situations/problems/concepts along with the capacity to venture beyond core competencies
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with effective interpersonal skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Team oriented, flexible and able to work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products, primarily the use of word processing, health and safety database applications, presentation and spreadsheet software.
- Commitment to safe work behaviors and protection of the environment
- Ability to read, write, and speak English in a clear, concise manner
- Authorized to work in the United States without Sponsorship
Physical Requirements:
Candidate must be able to:
- Lift up-to 20 pounds regularly and up-to 50 pounds occasionally
- Regularly required to sit, stand, or walk in the facility
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and manipulate objects
- Bend, reach, kneel, and stoop occasionally
- Ability to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety shoes, protective clothing, safety harness, safety glasses, and respiratory protection (as required)
Work Environment:
- PVC manufacturing facility, in presence of chemicals
- Work is performed mostly indoors (climate controlled) and occasionally outdoors (non-climate controlled)
- Moderate noise-level and environmental vibration related to equipment
