What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floater Teacher position at Shining Stars Preschool & Daycare LLC?
NOW HIRING: PART-TIME AFTERNOON CHILD CARE TEACHER
1:00 PM–6:00 PM | Monday–Friday
Break Coverage After-School School-Age Program
Join a Child Care Center That Actually Supports You — Shining Stars Preschool & Daycare
Shining Stars Preschool & Daycare is growing, and we are looking for a dependable, energetic, caring, and motivated educator to join our afternoon team.
This position is perfect for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable working with different age groups throughout the day.
THE POSITION
Hours: 1:00 PM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday
Your afternoon will generally include:
- Providing break and ratio coverage in our Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms
- Assisting teachers during busy afternoon transitions
- Moving between classrooms as needed to support the center
- Helping with afternoon routines, activities, cleaning, and organization
- Transitioning into our Shooting Stars School-Age Program as children arrive after school
- Supervising and engaging school-age children through the end of the day
- Assisting with closing responsibilities and making sure classrooms are ready for the next day
Because this is a break-coverage position, you will NOT be assigned to sit in one classroom for your entire shift. You must be comfortable moving throughout the center and working with Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers, and School-Age children.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
At Shining Stars, we don't just hire staff — we develop strong teachers.
Every new hire is trained across all classrooms — Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and School Age — before being placed into their regular responsibilities.
We do this so you:
✓ Feel confident walking into any classroom
✓ Understand how our entire center operates
✓ Aren't "thrown into a room" unprepared
✓ Can confidently provide coverage wherever you're needed
✓ Have opportunities to grow into additional roles
WHAT THE JOB INCLUDES
- Providing safe, attentive supervision at all times
- Supporting meals/snacks, diapering, toileting, nap, and transitions when covering younger classrooms
- Implementing and participating in structured activities and curriculum
- Actively engaging with our school-age children — not simply supervising from across the room
- Maintaining clean, organized, and licensing-compliant classrooms
- Completing required Brightwheel documentation, attendance, and photos
- Communicating professionally with families and coworkers
- Helping with end-of-day cleaning and closing responsibilities
- Following all ODJFS licensing requirements and Shining Stars policies
OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE
We want applicants to understand our expectations before applying.
RELIABILITY IS REQUIRED.
Our staffing and state-required ratios depend on every scheduled employee being here.
EARLY = ON TIME. ON TIME = LATE. LATE IS NOT ACCEPTED.
YOU MUST BE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY PRESENT.
Child care is an active job. You will be standing, walking, sitting on the floor, cleaning, transitioning children, going to the gym/playground, and actively supervising.
YOU MUST BE FLEXIBLE.
This position exists specifically to support multiple classrooms. "That's not my room" is not how we operate.
YOU MUST BE A TEAM PLAYER.
We operate as one center — not separate classrooms.
YOU MUST BE COACHABLE.
You must be willing to learn, accept feedback, follow procedures, and grow.
YOU MUST FOLLOW STRUCTURE.
Our classrooms have schedules, routines, curriculum, cleaning expectations, documentation requirements, and licensing procedures.
HIGH STANDARDS AND ACCOUNTABILITY ARE PART OF THE JOB.
If you're looking for a job where you can sit back, be on your phone, and "just babysit," Shining Stars is NOT the right fit.
If you want to be part of an organized program where teachers are expected to teach, engage, participate, and work as a team, we'd love to meet you.
WHY STRONG TEACHERS CHOOSE SHINING STARS
✓ Supportive, hands-on leadership

✓ Weekly pay
✓ Paid required trainings including CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Recognition, and more
