Job Summary
Shiland Animal Hospital and Urgent Care are looking for Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants, who want to be part of a growing, non-corporate veterinary practice.
Shiland Animal opened in October 2024 with experienced, personalized care for every pet that walks through our doors whether it be for a routine visit or for urgent care.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary medicine and a passion for animal care. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality medical care to our patients, assisting veterinarians in various procedures, and ensuring the well-being of animals in our facility.
Responsibilities of Veterinary Technicians/Veterinary Assistants include but not limited to:
Triaging patients, taking their vitals and acquiring patient history and other information from clients.
Comfortable being able to determine urgent care cases vs. emergency situations and react accordingly.
Working with the medical staff, discussing cases, treatment plans and formulating treatment orders.
Assisting with diagnostic procedures.
Discussing treatment plans and estimates, and payment options with clients.
Acquiring cephalic, saphenous and jugular blood samples on all size patients.
Placing IV catheters, monitoring and charting anesthesia during surgical procedures.
Assessing and managing analgesia.
Maintain surgical packs and operating autoclaves.
Processing in-house laboratory specimens and submitting specimens to outside laboratories.
Proficiency in working in radiology. Following radiology diagnostic orders, obtaining various types of studies.
Calculating medication dosages and providing dosage instructions for clients.
Discussing treatment plans with your fellow nursing team.
Entering patients’ service charges into the computer database and keeping accurate patient records.
Explaining patient discharges to clients and sharing educational materials.
Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic.
Provide support in dental procedures using knowledge of dental terminology
Skills and Qualifications
- South Carolina Licensed Veterinary Technician is preferred.
- Reliable team player, with willingness to step in where needed.
- Be able to use all your skill sets from wellness care to critical care medicine.
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in small animal clinical setting.
- Superior technical knowledge and skills.
- Proficient in medical math calculations.
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members.
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks.
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, proactive and positive professional attitude.
- Willing to help and assist restraining pets of at least 40 pounds and able to work on your feet most of the day.
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the fast-paced environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner.
- Must be able to anticipate and be detail oriented due to high level of quality medicine we provide.
- Must be able to work weekends and non-major holidays.
Salary: Pay rate is based on experience.
