SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.
The Navigator provides client-centered support by connecting individuals and families to appropriate services and community resources. This role coordinates referrals, maintains accurate documentation, and collaborates with partner agencies to ensure timely and effective service delivery. The Navigator plays a critical role in supporting clients’ identified needs while maintaining compliance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.

Provide appropriate linkage and referrals to clients and their families based on identified needs.

Coordinate support services, including assisting clients and families in accessing auxiliary and community-based resources.

Collaborate with referral sources such as All For Kids, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and other community agencies to ensure continuity of care.

Maintain positive and professional working relationships with local service providers and referral partners.

Maintain a working knowledge of community programs, available resources, services offered, and eligibility requirements.

Enter and maintain accurate program data in electronic databases, including client information, contacts, and updated community resources.

Generate required reports and provide monthly program reports to the Program Manager.

Respond to requests for information in a timely and professional manner.

Ensure documentation complies with agency policies, procedures, and all applicable federal, state, county, and local regulations.

Attend required meetings, in-service trainings, and external trainings as assigned.

Assist with the coordination of program events and activities as needed.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one (1) year of experience, OR

High School diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of experience providing direct services in social services or a related field.

Experience working with high-risk families and children preferred.

Demonstrated therapeutic or supportive skills through prior education, training, or work experience.
The ideal candidate will have basic advocacy skills and the ability to support and empower clients and families, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in personal computers and standard office software is required, as well as the ability to use sound judgment and make informed decisions. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and alignment with SHIELDS for Families’ mission and values, adapt to changing program needs, and provide services in a culturally responsive manner to diverse communities. A valid California driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, car insurance, car registration, and access to reliable transportation are required, as the position involves travel and co-location throughout SPA 6. Experience working with underserved populations and/or individuals impacted by substance use is preferred.
