Wood Fabricator Job Description
WHO WE ARE
SHIELD is a Kansas City-based design and manufacturing company creating world-class products for the world’s best teams and facilities. Our work can be found in the locker rooms of the NBA, NFL, and NCAA’s top programs, and in the nation’s most innovative hospitals and medical centers.
From custom athletic lockers to modern healthcare environments, we partner with elite organizations to design, engineer, and build spaces where champions and professionals perform at their best. At SHIELD, craftsmanship meets purpose — and every project is built with pride.
SUMMARY
We’re looking for a hands-on craftsperson who takes pride in building high-quality, custom products that will be seen and used by some of the most recognizable names in sports and healthcare. As a Fabricator at SHIELD, you’ll be an integral part of our production team, shaping raw materials into finished installations that showcase precision, creativity, and excellence. You’ll work on unique, design-driven projects — not mass production — where no two builds are exactly alike.
If you love working with your hands, appreciate quality craftsmanship, and want to be part of a team that builds for champions, this role is for you.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Craft high-end custom products for major sports and healthcare clients
• Read and follow shop drawings and production plans
• Build components using woodworking and fabrication tools and machinery
• Work collaboratively with a team to meet project timelines and quality standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Take pride in delivering finished products that meet SHIELD’s premium standards
• Suggest improvements to enhance build processes or product quality
WHAT YOU BRING
• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in finish carpentry, cabinet making, custom woodworking, plastics, or production assembly
• Familiarity with shop tools, saws, routers, and measuring equipment
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings or blueprints (preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
• A team-first attitude and reliability
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within a creative manufacturing environment
BONUS POINTS
• OSHA certification
• Experience working with laminate, acrylics, or solid surface materials
• Knowledge of shop safety and lean manufacturing principles
WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING AT SHIELD
• Be part of projects that make headlines — from professional sports facilities to cutting-edge hospitals
• Work with a passionate, creative team that values quality and collaboration
• Build products that last — and that you’ll be proud to point to as “I made that.”
• Opportunities to learn new materials, tools, and build techniques
• Competitive pay, benefits, and growth potential within a fast-evolving company
