The firm
A well established, 70 person CPA firm in the Hartford area. Large enough to handle sophisticated work across manufacturing, real estate, construction, and the nonprofit sector, and small enough that you know every partner by name and they know yours. The people here tend to stay, and the ones who came from Big 4 and large regional firms will tell you the difference is that the workload is real but the hours are not punishing and the path up is visible.
What you will do
- Own the tax relationship for a portfolio of closely held business clients and their owners, across pass throughs, C corporations, individuals, and related entity structures
- Review complex federal and multistate returns and provide the technical sign off on planning positions
- Lead year round planning conversations: entity structuring, owner compensation, transaction planning, estimated tax strategy, and credits and incentives relevant to manufacturing, real estate, and construction clients
- Research and document technical positions, and translate them into plain language a business owner can act on
- Manage engagement economics, scheduling, and budgets across your book
- Coach and review the work of seniors and staff, and take a real role in their development and promotion
- Participate in growing the practice through referral sources, existing client expansion, and firm visibility in the market
What you bring
- Active CPA license (required)
- Roughly 6 or more years of public accounting tax experience, including meaningful review responsibility
- Experience with closely held businesses and their owners; Big 4 and regional firm backgrounds are welcome and common here
- Comfort managing multiple client relationships and deadlines at once
- The judgment to know when a return needs a conversation, not just a correction
What you get
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office per week
- Half day Fridays all year, outside of busy season
- 36 hour standard work week outside of busy season
- Competitive base and target bonus, reviewed against the market rather than against an internal ceiling
- Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) with firm contribution
- Generous PTO plus paid holidays
- Paid CPE, professional dues, and support for continuing licensure
- A defined path toward senior manager and partner, with partners who talk about it openly instead of leaving you guessing
Interview process
- Two rounds. The first is a video call with a partner and a senior manager. The second is with other members of the team and can be done in person or by video. The process moves quickly and you will get a straight answer either way.
