Job Summary

As an Auto Body Technician, you'll be responsible for assessing vehicle damage, performing quality repairs, and ensuring vehicles are restored safely and efficiently. This role involves hands-on collision repair work, from disassembly to reassembly, while adhering to industry standards for quality, timeliness, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine damaged vehicles to plan the repair process, identify additional damage, and assist in preparing accurate estimates.
  • Disassemble vehicles, remove damaged parts, upholstery, accessories, and electrical/hydraulic components to access repair areas.
  • Perform structural and non-structural repairs, including hammering out dents, welding broken parts, straightening frames, and replacing panels or components.
  • Use a variety of tools, including welders, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, hammers, sanders, and spray guns, to repair body damage.
  • Grind, file, sand, and fill repaired surfaces; realign chassis and frames; replace or repair glass, windshields, and interior parts as needed.
  • Reassemble vehicles, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and secure connections; perform final inspections to verify compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with estimators, other technicians, and team members to minimize supplements, communicate repair status, and maintain workflow.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and guidelines for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and return tools to their proper place.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the team's success.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of hands-on auto body collision repair experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a technical school program, apprenticeship, or vocational certification in auto body repair preferred.
  • I-CAR, ASE, or OEM certifications preferred (e.g., welding, structural repair).
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle repair processes, including structural/frame repairs, aluminum and high-strength steel work, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair orders, estimates, and work instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; customer-focused attitude with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of a background check required.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform tasks requiring strength and dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stretch, kneel, squat, and reach for extended periods (up to 90% of the day).
  • Good vision to inspect vehicle damage and repairs in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work safely in a noisy environment with odors, using required safety equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate tools and equipment.

Compensation $70,000 - $150,000 annually (based on experience and performance). This position offers a performance-based flat rate structure tied to booked hours, with potential for bonuses based on individual and team initiatives. Compensation is guaranteed to meet local minimum wage requirements for all hours worked.
