Position Summary
As a member of our Rehabilitation department, the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) will perform direct and indirect patient care. Providing patient specific programs as determined by the Occupational Therapist in accordance with the principles and practices of Occupational Therapy.
Primary Responsibilities
This Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) is responsible for but not limited to:
- Assist in screening all new admissions to the Sherrill House
- Performs direct occupational therapy treatment to patients following the treatment plan outlined by registered occupational therapist
- Keeps treatment records and statistics according to established policies and procedures
- Orients patients to treatment procedures and is responsible for patient's safety while undergoing occupational therapy
- Prepares written documentation as required by the profession, department and established policies and procedures.
- May instruct nursing personnel on splint application and schedule, transfer techniques, activities of daily living as needed on an individual or group basis
- Communication of patient status and needs, to the patient, the patient's family and the interdisciplinary team members.
- Attend appropriate meetings and in-services
- Meets regularly with the registered occupational therapist to review patient's treatment plans and obtain interpretation of evaluations, programs, and goals
- Maintains accurate billing information in accordance with Sherrill House procedures daily.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patients, facility and physician related information.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

Qualifications
- Must be licensed as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) in accordance with the laws of the state and certified by NBCOT.
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from accredited institution required.
- Experience: Some practical occupational therapy experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
- Computer Skills: Ability to utilize a management information system for the purposes of collecting and analyzing data, maintaining files, providing reports and printouts.
