Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Manager to lead payroll tax compliance, controls, governance, and process optimization across a complex, multi state organization. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for payroll tax regulations and partner closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, Legal, IT, and external vendors to ensure compliance, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Lead federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance, filings, deposits, and remittances
- Oversee quarter end and year end payroll tax processes, including W 2 and W 2C reporting
- Manage payroll tax setup, configuration, taxability rules, wage types, and system logic
- Own payroll tax controls, documentation, reconciliations, and audit readiness
- Lead internal and external payroll tax audits, including research, remediation, and resolution
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely updates to payroll systems and processes
- Partner with IT, payroll vendors, HR, Finance, Accounting, Legal, and Benefits on tax related initiatives
- Support system testing, M&A due diligence, integrations, and process improvements
- Lead and develop a team of payroll tax professionals
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 8 years of payroll tax experience, including multi state payroll
- 3 years of people management experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Experience with payroll systems and tax filing platforms; SAP and MasterTax preferred
- CPP certification preferred
