What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Shepperd Construction?
Hiring: Reconstruction Estimator
Austin, Texas
If you’ve spent the last few years estimating glazing, waterproofing, stucco, or exterior systems and feel like you’re just turning bids, this is a different kind of role.
At Shepperd Construction, we are reconstruction-focused. Our work centers on solving real problems in existing buildings, not ground-up construction. That includes building envelope failures, water intrusion, structural repairs, and projects in occupied environments where sequencing and detailing matter. In addition to envelope work, we also take on scopes such as civil grading and drainage improvements tied to site and building performance.
We are looking for someone who understands how these systems actually go together and can translate field conditions, forensic reports, and incomplete information into accurate scopes and pricing.
Company Description
Shepperd Construction specializes in reconstruction, including structural, cladding, and building envelope projects, as well as insurance restoration and construction invasive testing. We help clients gather forensic construction data efficiently while maintaining a high level of care for occupant safety and jobsite conditions. Our team works across Texas and nationwide on technically complex projects.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Estimator role based in the Austin area. You will be responsible for building budgets and proposals across a range of reconstruction scopes, working closely with operations and leadership to help define projects, not just price them.
Typical scopes include:
Stucco and EIFS systems
Stone and siding assemblies
Windows and doors
Waterproofing and flashing corrections
Structural repairs tied to envelope failures
Civil grading and drainage improvements
You will review plans, site conditions, and forensic findings, perform takeoffs, visit sites, and develop pricing that reflects how the work will actually be built.
Qualifications
Experience estimating or managing work in glazing, waterproofing, roofing, facade, civil, or restoration trades
Strong understanding of building envelope systems and how components tie together
Ability to work from incomplete information and develop clear, buildable scopes
Proficiency in Excel, Bluebeam and estimating tools
Strong communication skills with internal teams, clients, and trade partners
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple active projects
Opportunity
This role offers real ownership over estimating and preconstruction. You will be involved early, influence project strategy, and work on complex, high-value reconstruction projects rather than repetitive bid work.
If you come from a subcontractor background and want broader scope, more responsibility, and a seat at the table on larger projects, this is a strong next step.
