What to expect:
The Service Chief for Adult Inpatient Services at Sheppard Pratt’s Towson campus provides leadership, clinical oversight, and direct psychiatric care across assigned units. Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Service Chief manages admissions, treatment planning, and care delivery while ensuring the unit operates in alignment with Sheppard Pratt’s standards and service line goals. This role includes supervision and mentoring of clinical staff, active participation in the therapeutic milieu, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support high-quality, patient-centered care. The Service Chief also ensures compliance with licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements while fostering a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.
In addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities, the Service Chief maintains a direct patient caseload, conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, managing medications, and providing guidance for complex clinical cases. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to integrate evidence-based practices across multiple units while promoting safe transitions and optimal outcomes for patients.
Specific Responsibilities:

Lead the development and coordination of individualized, multidisciplinary treatment plans.

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, admission evaluations, and ongoing medication management.

Provide consultation to staff on complex patient care issues and ensure high-quality clinical decision-making.

Supervise and mentor psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, residents, and other clinical staff.

Oversee quality of care and patient safety, leading quality improvement initiatives and addressing concerns proactively.

Foster effective communication and collaboration across the multidisciplinary team, patients, and families.

What we need from you:
- Board Certification in Psychiatry and completion of a residency training program.
- Active Maryland medical license with Controlled Substances Registration and valid DEA Certificate.
- Three years of experience preferred, including practical experience in an acute psychiatric setting.
- Experience leading care teams in acute behavioral health settings.
- Strong ability to communicate therapeutically and collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
The base pay range for this position is $265,000 minimum to $325,000 maximum. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, board certifications and years and level of related experience.
