Opportunity Summary:
This internship experience will provide an opportunity to work with a range of patient populations while developing professional and interpersonal skills needed to become a competent social worker.
The process for applying to an internship program with Sheppard Pratt should be initiated by the respective college/university field placement department prior to submitting an internship application on the Sheppard Pratt’s website. Sheppard Pratt can only accept interns from schools with an affiliation agreement.
Eligibility Requirements:
Students applying to this internship must demonstrate effective time management as well as efficient oral and written communication skills. Students must be willing to work with a team while also demonstrating the ability to be self-motivated.
Time Frame:
This opportunity will run from September 2026 - April 2027.
Learning Model:
Students will be under the supervision of a licensed social worker and will learn through observation, demonstration, and ongoing feedback to ensure that each individual’s learning needs can be met fully and in an individual manner. Self-reflection, self-evaluation, and peer critique will further help to advance professional growth and development.

- Report to the unit 2 days a week
- Serve a variety of patient populations on either our child& adolescent or adult service lines and day programs.
- Complete a comprehensive psychosocial assessment.
- Communicate with patient’s family/guardian.
- Communicate with internal and external treatment team members.
- Assist with Discharge Planning
- Conduct clinical groups 1-2 times a week.
- Readiness to learn from all experiences.
- Demonstrate patience and compassion when working with those with mental illnesses.
