Farm Accountant

Job Summary
Shepherds Brook Farms is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accountant to manage the financial records of our farm operation. This role is critical to keeping our day-to-day operations running smoothly, from tracking livestock-related expenses to managing accounts payable / receivable and preparing financial reports. The ideal candidate is organized, trustworthy, and comfortable working semi-independently.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records for the farm, including accounts payable and receivable.
• Prepare the month end and year end closing process including accruals and journal entries.
• Record and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly transactions.
• Reconcile cattle headcount.
• Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
• Assist with budgeting, cash flow tracking, and cost analysis.
• Prepare and assist with year-end reporting and tax preparation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable financial and agricultural regulations.
• Organize and maintain digital and paper financial records.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a similar accounting role.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred). Or equivalent years of related work experience.
• Experience with agricultural, ranching, or livestock operations strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar).
• Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Comfortable working independently and communicating with farm management.

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
