The Seasonal Decor Technician is responsible for assisting with the installation, operation, and maintenance of seasonal decorations, displays, lighting, throughout the park
This is a hands-on position that combines outdoor work, basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, seasonal decorating, equipment operation, and general maintenance. The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in creating attractive and memorable seasonal displays, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
During the initial setup period, most work will be performed during daytime hours. Beginning in November, the work schedule will transition primarily to evening hours to support the operation, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of seasonal displays after they are illuminated and open to the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation and setup of seasonal decorations, displays, lighting, props, structures, and attractions.
- Help prepare seasonal displays for public operation, including positioning, assembly, securing, lighting, and testing.
- Inspect seasonal decorations and equipment for damage, wear, safety concerns, and proper operation.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on seasonal displays throughout the operating season.
- Troubleshoot lighting, electrical connections, timers, extension cords, displays, and other equipment.
- Replace bulbs, connectors, wiring components, and other consumable or repairable items as needed.
- Make adjustments to displays to maintain their appearance, functionality, and safety.
- Assist with daily opening and closing procedures for seasonal attractions and displays.
- Respond to maintenance issues and display outages during operating hours.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other equipment as required.
- Help prepare decorations and equipment for future seasons.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold temperatures during the late fall and winter operating season.
- Follow all safety procedures, operational policies, and instructions from supervisors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule and Working Conditions
The seasonal nature of this position requires flexibility in scheduling.
Setup Period: Most shifts will be scheduled during daytime hours while seasonal displays are being installed, tested, and prepared for operation.
Beginning in November: The schedule will transition primarily to evening and nighttime hours to coincide with the operation of illuminated seasonal displays. Employees should expect occasional weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and schedule changes based on operational needs.
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, reaching, and working outdoors. Employees may work in cold, wet, windy, or otherwise changing weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to perform physical, hands-on work for extended periods.
- Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to identify basic maintenance and safety concerns.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to safely work from ladders and elevated work areas.
- Valid driver's license preferred, if required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with seasonal decorating, event setup, facilities maintenance, electrical work, construction, landscaping, theater/production, or a related field.
- Experience working with decorative lighting or large-scale displays.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, timers, and troubleshooting.
- Experience operating lifts, power tools, or other maintenance equipment.
- Experience working in parks, recreation, festivals, special events, attractions, or similar environments.
