Job Summary

Our ideal candidate will follow established departmental and SMC policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of quality control and performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collects and labels specimens, ensuring integrity until disposal according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs test procedures following written protocols and manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Reviews patient results, communicating critical values and abnormal findings to healthcare personnel in a timely manner.
  • Manages supply inventory to prevent shortages and implements infectious disease controls as necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment as directed.

Ongoing Development

  • Maintains current knowledge and training on equipment and procedures.
  • Notifies supervisor promptly of customer concerns, unsafe conditions, and malfunctioning instruments/test procedures.
  • Maintains competence in computer skills, including order entry and laboratory system tasks.
  • Participates in educational programs, literature reviews, and in-service meetings for professional growth and development.

Documentation and Record-Keeping

  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
  • Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status, reflecting nursing interventions and outcomes.
  • Completes shift end check prior to leaving duty.

Additional Duties

The successful candidate will perform other duties as assigned by Shenandoah Medical Center.
