Key Responsibilities
- Collects and labels specimens, ensuring integrity until disposal according to established policies and procedures.
- Performs test procedures following written protocols and manufacturers' recommendations.
- Reviews patient results, communicating critical values and abnormal findings to healthcare personnel in a timely manner.
- Manages supply inventory to prevent shortages and implements infectious disease controls as necessary.
- Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment as directed.
Ongoing Development
- Maintains current knowledge and training on equipment and procedures.
- Notifies supervisor promptly of customer concerns, unsafe conditions, and malfunctioning instruments/test procedures.
- Maintains competence in computer skills, including order entry and laboratory system tasks.
- Participates in educational programs, literature reviews, and in-service meetings for professional growth and development.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
- Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status, reflecting nursing interventions and outcomes.
- Completes shift end check prior to leaving duty.
