Assistant Volleyball Coach
Position Summary
Shenandoah Community School District is seeking a High School Assistant Volleyball Coach for a one-season, one-year appointment. The assistant coach supports the head coach in organizing and leading the volleyball program, helping student-athletes develop skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive competitive experience. Must have a Coaching License or be able to obtain a Coaching Authorization before the season begins.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach with planning and conducting practices and game preparation
- Provide instruction in volleyball fundamentals, strategy, and player development
- Help supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team activities
- Support program-wide expectations for behavior, academics, and sportsmanship
- Assist with equipment/uniform management and basic program organization
- Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families, staff, and officials
- Follow all district policies, athletic department procedures, and league/association rules
- Maintain required certifications and complete mandated trainings (if applicable)
Qualifications
- Prior volleyball playing and/or coaching experience preferred
- Ability to work effectively with high school students in a team setting
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Knowledge of volleyball rules and skill progression
- Willingness to commit to the full season schedule (including practices and competitions)
- Required clearances/background checks per district policy
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to season start)
Work Schedule / Time Commitment
This is a seasonal coaching assignment requiring availability for:
- After-school practices (typically weekdays)
- Games/competitions (including some evenings and possible weekends)
- Pre-season meetings and any required athletic department trainings
This position is a one-year/one-season commitment only.
