Posting Information: We are currently hiring for a student supervision support staff member at Mt. View Elementary school for the 2026-2027 school year.

Interview Process: If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an Asynchronous Virtual Interview. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in an in-person interview at a date to be determined.

Schedule: 4 hours per day; M-F. This position is temporary for the 26/27 school year, but may be extended into future school years based on student enrollment, funding, and program need.

Salary: Minimum Wage

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (overtime eligible)

Overview

Student Supervision Support staff support the Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plans by providing active supervision of students during instruction and non-instructional times, including before and after school, recess, lunch periods, passing times, and during classroom instruction. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment by monitoring student behavior, enforcing school expectations, supporting positive student interactions, and responding promptly to safety concerns.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass a Federal criminal background check
• Prior experience supervising children or youth in school or community settings, preferred (not required)
• Ability to attend specific trainings such as CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention)
• Ability to complete 28 hours of District provided training within the first school year of employment as required by statute
• Ability to work effectively with students in a school setting
• Ability to maintain supervision, awareness, and engagement in busy and active environments
• Ability to learn and implement new strategies and techniques
• Possession of excellent communication skills including active listening and two-way communication.
• Ability to maintain an upbeat, positive, and collaborative demeanor
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment
• Ability to incorporate lightheartedness and humor into the workplace
• Ability to make independent decisions as well as work collaboratively with other staff
• Ability to admit faults and learn from mistakes
• Ability to apply policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations accurately

Essential Functions

• Actively supervise students during assigned times including

Before and after school arrival and dismissal

Recess and playground activities

Lunch periods and common areas

Hallways, restrooms, and shared spaces during passing times

Classrooms

• Monitors student behavior to ensure compliance with school rules and expectations
• Intervenes early and appropriately in student conflicts, unsafe behaviors, or rule violations
• Maintains visible, mobile, and engaged supervision at all times (not stationary or passive)
• Promotes positive student behavior and respectful interactions
• Uses de-escalation strategies and positive behavior supports when addressing student behavior
• Builds positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
• Supports inclusive, respectful, and equitable school climate practices
• Communicates concerns, incidents, and patterns of behavior to teachers, administrators, or designated staff
• Completes incident reports or documentation as required
• Works collaboratively with school staff to support student safety and supervision needs
• Responds promptly and appropriately to injuries, medical concerns, or emergencies
• Follows school and district safety procedures, including emergency response protocols
• Reports safety hazards, vandalism, or facility concerns to appropriate personnel
• Follows district policies, school procedures, and confidentiality expectations
• Attend trainings and meetings as directed or appropriate
