Resident Aide

Position Overview

Shelter House is a community of residents, staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services for the men and women of the Greater Cincinnati area who are experiencing homelessness. The Resident Aid is responsible for overall resident care during shelter stay.    

Essential Job Duties

• Responsible for making security rounds to ensure that clients are not violating policy and/or using while in the shelter
• Assists clients in all programs (VA, RRH, HIPP) during their stay at the shelter, helping to connect them to resources as needed.
• Responsible for bed checks and bed assignments
• Ensures that chores are being done by chore workers and if they are not, finding a replacement worker.
• Responsible for A/D outreach for clients struggling with addiction
• Records RA encounters for each client in VESTA, which includes noting information about the interaction with the client.
• Provide residents with emotional support during their stay here
• Enforces Shelter policies
• Administer NARCAN when necessary
• Administer first aid when necessary
• Oversee meals by ensuring that clients are getting meals, that order is kept during meal time, and that clean-up is completed by clients assigned to the kitchen chore.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school Diploma or GED
• 1 year customer service experience
• Knowledge or experience in working with the homeless, mentally ill, and/or substance abusing populations
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled

Physical Requirements (% of time spent performing requirements)

• Time spent walking- 90%
• Time spent sitting- 10%

Must be able to lift 30lbs
