Overview
Shelter Development, Inc., a nonprofit based in La Crosse, WI, is seeking an Executive Director to oversee the organization’s administration, programs, and strategic planning. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. Shelter Development began in 2015 as a grassroots effort to address the lack of affordable housing for vulnerable families and grew into a thriving nonprofit focused on long-term housing stability and essential home furnishing programs.
Shelter Development owns and operates theExchange La Crosse Area Furniture Bank, located near downtown La Crosse. Through the effective reuse of donated items, theExchange collaborates with local organizations to provide home essentials for community members in need, serving over 500 households annually. A smaller program in the Shelter Development portfolio is Francis Homes, a housing initiative that provides short-term affordable homes for families facing housing instability.
The Executive Director leads a collaborative team of paid staff and volunteers at theExchange and reports directly to the Shelter Development Board of Directors. The position is part-time (25 hours per week). This is an ideal position for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families seeking to overcome poverty and homelessness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Nonprofit management and board relations experience
- Ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and volunteers
- Fundraising and grant writing experience
- Donor relations skills and knowledge of funding processes
- Able to work with diverse groups of people facing challenges such as domestic violence, disability and poverty
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegation, and program development
- Financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, and reporting (experience with Quickbooks a plus)
- Strong written and oral communication skills and public-speaking ability
Pay: $35.00 - $38.00 per hour
