Join Shelter Care as a Jubilee Center Advocate
Shelter Care, a community leader in ending homelessness and supporting adults with mental illness, is hiring two Advocate positions at the Jubilee Center.
The Positions
Jubilee Outreach Advocate - Provides advocacy and support services to housed Jubilee members at the Center, in their homes, and throughout the community.
Jubilee Advocate for the Homeless - Provides advocacy and support services to homeless Jubilee members at the Center.
Both roles support members living with chronic mental illness in a fast-paced day center environment, working to improve health outcomes and foster socialization.
What You'll Do
You'll help Jubilee members access essential services and develop skills for greater independence, including:
- Connecting members to benefits like Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, housing vouchers, and Social Security
- Coordinating appointments and providing transportation using a company vehicle
- Supporting conflict resolution and daily living skills
- Assisting with financial management and bill payment for housed members
- Documenting outcomes and maintaining confidentiality
- Collaborating with community organizations to connect members with resources
Who We're Looking For
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
- 1-3 years working with adults with chronic mental illness
- Knowledge of mental health and homelessness issues
- Strong interpersonal skills and genuine compassion for the people we serve
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the ability to learn the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) database
- Comfort transporting clients and (for Outreach role) visiting members in their homes
- Lived experience is valued
