Our boutique employment law firm is looking to hire an experienced paralegal to join a team of 6 lawyers plus support staff. For over 30 years, Shellist Lazarz Slobin LLP has been a leading plaintiff-side employment law firm in the Houston area. We are active in the federal and state courts in the Houston area, as well as in courts across the state of Texas.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Preparing client disclosures and responses to written discovery, including: assisting clients in conducting a proper search for relevant client information and documents; effectively communicating and enforcing expectations and deadlines with clients; organizing and reviewing client-supplied documents; documenting client-supplied information in writing; drafting discovery responses under supervision; and timely escalating any questions and issues to the supervising attorney;
- Calculating lost wage damages and other numbers;
- Drafting subpoenas for documents, depositions, depositions with duces tecum, and trial and coordinating with process servers;
- Drafting routine motions, orders, and discovery;
- Calendaring deadlines;
- Filing;
- Following court procedures and policies; and
- Helping lawyers prepare for trial by preparing and organizing exhibits.
Qualifications:
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with clients, collect client information and documents, and work with clients as the primary contact for CSI gathering and discovery matters in a small plaintiff-side firm.
- Must be a self-starter who works independently and holds oneself responsible for ensuring discovery response deadlines are met and client is in timely compliance with the firm's requests for information.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to consistently proofread and double-check your own work without requiring oversight.
- Substantial (7 years) civil litigation paralegal experience, including experience handling discovery, filing, calendaring, and subpoenas.
- Bachelors' degree/paralegal certificate.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00
