Environmental Lab Technician locations Deer Park time type Full time posted on Posted 5 Days Ago job requisition id R192891 Texas, United States of America Job Family Group: Production and Manufacturing Downstream Worker Type: Regular Posting Start Date: November 20, 2025 Business unit: Downstream and Renewables Experience Level: Experienced Professionals Job Description: What’s the role In this position, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tests on chemical products, chemical process streams and/or outfall samples to verify and ensure adherence to manufacturing specifications, process control, product specifications, and compliance parameters. In addition, you will document all tests performed in hard copy format as well as in the electronic management system. You will also be expected to perform routine maintenance on testing equipment and complete housekeeping duties. What you'll be doing Recognize potential hazards in work area Use proper PPE Act in accordance with our Core Values Report to work on time and dressed in FRCs Follow attendance management guidelines Clean your work area and be proactive regarding housekeeping Complete mandatory training on time Interpret, record, and report data, and take corrective actions according to protocols Follow Quality System procedures and protocols Perform required and scheduled Preventive Maintenance Participate in Departmental Meetings Prepare Equipment and Instrumentation for Maintenance (Permits) Communicate clearly and in detail (Daily Logs) Train Others Manage sample priorities and workload to ensure timely delivery of results Follow Product Approval process Solve problems Organize work Work accurately and thoroughly Work well with others Learn new tasks What we need from you Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa Minimum of 2 years of experience preferably in a refinery, petrochemical, and/or compliance lab environment Bachelor’s degree and/or an associate degree is required Must be at least 18 years old Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic As part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background, drug, medical, and reference checks, including hair drug testing Be willing to submit to and achieve satisfactory results on all pre-employment checks and testing Be willing to support the company's drug-free work environment, which will include random drug screenings Be willing to support and comply with the company's harassment-free work environment policy Be willing to support and comply with the company's safety policies and initiatives Be willing to support and comply with the company's diversity and inclusion work environment policies Be willing to provide duty coverage on a modified rotating shift schedule and work at least 12 consecutive hours per day (including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime) Be willing to be on call and meet callout standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies Have the ability to read and understand analytical procedures and test methods Be willing to work in a diverse, multi-skilled, achievement oriented, team-based environment Be able to use computers in a work environment Basic expectations also include Comply with Deer Park policies, order and procedures, including those for the safe conduct of work Start every shift with safety, focus on what to do to make your shift incident-free Act with personal integrity and transparency Be fair, equitable and courteous to everyone What prior experiences are we looking for Experience in petrochemical and/or environmental compliance testing methods and equipment including Karl Fischer, automated distillation, Flash Point, Liquid and Gas Chromatography techniques, X-ray fluorescence, TOC, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Ammonia, and Sulfide analysis, pH, Titrations (manual and automated), and UV-Vis Spectrophotometers is preferred Be versed in the use of Sample Manager/GLIMS, Open Lab, SAP, and Dragon software applications in support of routine testing and reporting Be versed in the interpretation of SQC charts and applicable run rules Familiarity with NPDES water testing protocol is a plus Proficiency in basic chemical lab skills preferred (e.g., weighing, pipetting, titrating, dilutions, metric system, safe lab practices, units conversion, read and understand lab methods, etc.) Proficiency in basic math skills preferred (e.g., rounding numbers, fractions, percentages, simple statistics, use of hand calculator) Proficiency in basic chemistry preferred (e.g., pH, acid-base reactions, operating principles of simple lab equipment, recognize chemical formulas) Experience with personal or laboratory computers preferred (used frequently as a work tool for school or job, data entry, spreadsheet calculations) A working knowledge of laboratory information management systems and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) is necessary ***Please note that there is an Online Assessment which is required for this position. Please review your Workday tasks, directions and instructions to ensure you complete the required test within the provided timeframe*** The starting pay is $45.55 per hour. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, and internal equity. For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives.
