Position Summary
Shelf Indulgence is seeking an experienced and motivated Store Manager to oversee daily operations, lead our team, and support the continued growth of our bookstore. The ideal candidate has retail management experience, strong leadership skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a passion for creating an exceptional experience for customers and staff alike.
This is a leadership position responsible for operational management, employee supervision, inventory oversight, merchandising, customer experience, and event support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day bookstore operations and maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and support bookstore staff.
- Develop employee schedules and assist with timekeeping and payroll administration.
- Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, returns, transfers, and stock replenishment.
- Monitor sales performance and assist in achieving business objectives.
- Create and maintain merchandising displays that support sales and enhance the customer experience.
- Assist with planning and execution of author events, community programs, and special promotions.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and work toward effective resolution.
- Maintain accurate operational and financial records, including cash handling and deposits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- At least two (2) years of retail management, bookstore management, or comparable leadership experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supervising employees and managing schedules.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and standard business software.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional special events as business needs require.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry merchandise weighing up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a bookstore, specialty retail environment, or independent retail business.
- Familiarity with romance literature and publishing trends.
- Experience with Shopify POS or similar retail management systems.
- Experience coordinating community events or author appearances.
