What are the responsibilities and job description for the Foreman II - VECTOR CONTROL (Health Services) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
Performs mosquito abatement under supervision to reduce the number of mosquitoes and the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
Pay Grade: 42H
Minimum Qualifications
1. Three (3) years of experience in on-the-job or formal work training in pest, mosquito, or vector control; AND
2. High school diploma or possess a GED, OR
3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Completes daily work records and prepares operational reports as required.
2. Trains, assigns duties, and evaluates crew members assisting in operations.
3. Drives and maintains the assigned vehicle.
4. Assures that operations performance complies with the county’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
5. Assures high-level productivity and efficiency of work activities.
6. Assures that all policies and procedures are followed.
7. Operates small tools and equipment used to maintain ditches and natural waterways. Tools include brass pole water dippers, pick forks, shovels, weed eaters, chain saws, ditch blades (Joe blade), back spreaders, and swing blades.
8. Removes and trims vegetation along ditches and natural waterways.
9. Clears, maintains, and digs soil, trash, and objects to improve drainage ditches and natural waterways.
10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Knowledge of mosquito diversity, biology, and ecology.
2. Knowledge of the use of hand tools and power equipment used in vector control work and their proper maintenance, e.g., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, and handheld sprayers.
3. Knowledge of the names and composition of insecticides as well as their modes of action in killing mosquitoes.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public.
5. Ability to identify common mosquito pests and vectors by eye in the field.
6. Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by the date of employment.
2. Must be able to work shifts, weekends, and on-call.
3. Must be a Licensed Pest Control Applicator (Public Health Category) or obtain such by the end of probation.
Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to perform physical activities.
2. Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
3. Must successfully pass a physical examination.
