Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000 annually
Job Summary
Experienced road maintenance and construction professional with over 5 years of hands-on experience and 2 years in supervisory roles. Proven ability to oversee county road operations, manage crews, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Skilled in operating heavy equipment, maintaining infrastructure, and managing departmental records and resources. Holds a valid CDL and committed to safety, efficiency, and public service.
Responsibilities
- Performs administrative functions necessary for support of proper operation of county road department. Tasks include the supervision of the maintenance of computer databases pertaining to vehicles, equipment, roads and bridges and maintenance of records/inventories on gasoline, diesel fuel, rock asphalt and other supplies utilized by department.
- Schedules and supervises and/or performs minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Supervises and/or operates backhoe, bulldozer, snowplow and other equipment necessary for provision of county services.
- Supervises and/or operates vehicles requiring a commercial driver’s license.
- Supervises and/or performs work activities related to proper maintenance of county property, roads and rights of way, including, but not limited to, cutting weeds/trees, installation and maintenance of street signs and guard rails, maintenance of roadways and culverts, construction and maintenance of bridges and painting county owned facilities.
- Ensures vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and cleaned as needed.
- Supervises and/or performs related work as required.
Education/Certification
- High School Diploma / GED
- CDL Class A or B License
- Work Zone Traffic Control Technician Certification
- Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor Certification
- Pesticide Applicator Certification (if applicable)
- Asphalt Paving & Concrete Construction Training
- Road Scholar / Road Master Program (if applicable)
- Supervisory/Management Training Courses
Experience Required
- Work Experience may substitute for education/certification requirement.
- Must have 5 years road maintenance or construction trade experience with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Business Management Principles and Techniques.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local statutory/regulatory requirements associated with the operation and maintenance of county roadways.
- Considerable knowledge of occupation hazards and appropriate safety precautions pertaining to construction and maintenance of roads.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and exercises professional judgment.
- Ability to deal with the public, government officials and other agencies professionally.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to react quickly and competently in an emergency.
- Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with equipment.
- Knowledge of the operating characteristics and servicing of relevant equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Working Conditions Physical Effort
Work is typically performed outdoors in all types of weather. Some maintenance work may be performed indoors. The nature of work requires extreme physical exertion, including lifting of weights of up to 100 pounds. Must possess excellent manual dexterity and be able to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
Overtime Requirements: Exempt
Availability: Regular Shift but may be contacted on emergency basis
