Long-Term Substitute Art Teacher Needed

Location: Shelburne Community School

Shelburne Community School (SCS) is seeking a high-energy and dynamic Long-Term Substitute Art Teacher to join our school team for the 2026-2027 school year. This anticipated coverage is scheduled from August 19, 2026, through December 23, 2026. We are looking for a professional who can motivate every student to discover their creative potential, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment where students develop a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts.

Primary Responsibilities

• Implement a standards-based art curriculum centered on the National Core Arts Standards and visual literacy.
• Effectively integrate solid content knowledge into teaching plans, making connections between art and other disciplines.
• Work cooperatively with special educators, PT, and OT to support students of all abilities and provide adapted art opportunities.
• Create and maintain an environment of respect and rapport while using strong classroom management.
• Develop differentiated instruction and responsive intervention strategies using trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
• Accurately assess student learning based on Vermont Standards to guide instruction and provide timely feedback to families.
• Effectively utilize 21st-century technology to enhance instruction and student learning.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

• Current Vermont Professional Educator’s License or eligibility for licensure in Art Education.
• Bachelor’s degree and working knowledge of Vermont adopted standards.
• A strong understanding and passion for working with children.
• The flexibility to engage in team teaching and contribute positive energy to a collaborative faculty environment.
• A commitment to inclusivity, dependability, and a "what’s best for students" mindset in all decision-making.
• Ability to effectively and regularly communicate with families regarding student progress and program goals.
