Senior Associate Overview
Senior Associates at Sheffield Haworth partner with Practice MDs and Consultants to execute live searches, including market mapping, sourcing and screening candidates, taking detailed notes, maintaining data in our CRM, and proactively managing candidate and client expectations. In addition, they will be expected to assist Consultants with marketing, pitching, and candidate management.
The nature of this work is changing. AI now does in an afternoon the research that once took weeks, so the value of the role is shifting toward the parts it can't reach: reading a candidate, building the relationships, the creativity to find people others miss, and the judgment that decides a search. We want a Senior Associate who puts these tools to work and spends the time they free where it counts.
A few of the key areas of search that Senior Associates can expect to work on include:
- Knowledge management within our search database as well as within the team and firm SharePoint and other systems.
- Desk research, on LinkedIn and other research sources, as well as via our proprietary database and company websites.
- Outreach and engagement, including candidate cold calls, assessment, and ongoing relationship management.
- Written work including client-ready candidate assessments, job descriptions, client update notes, marketing materials, quarterly reports, etc.
- Candidate and client interaction.
- Business development could include company and management research as well as presentation preparation.
Sheffield Haworth is looking for a Senior Associate who is proactive and innovative. A successful applicant will have:
- 6-10 years’ experience working on executive search projects.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
- An ability to prioritize when faced with tight deadlines and shifting client needs.
- An ability to exercise absolute discretion and professionalism with confidential information.
- A positive attitude, a love of problem-solving, and a very close attention to detail.
- Well-developed skills in key office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, to efficiently produce presentations, reports, charts, graphical analysis, and written documents.
- Familiarity with the Technology Sector and Private Markets is a plus.
Skills & Attributes
In addition to the key skills for the role, we are always looking for team members who:
- Display a consistently curious and inquisitive attitude, leading with disciplined questions rather than assumptions and probing past titles and org charts into how decisions really get made.
- Read candidates well, getting past the CV to motivation and fit and telling conviction from defensiveness in a first conversation.
- Anticipate the needs of their clients, candidates, and team members, and identify problems, whether a counter-offer, a candidate cooling, or a spec the market won't meet, in time to get ahead of them.
- Build strong relationships with team members, candidates, and clients, and continually deepen and improve them over time.
- Manage stakeholders with professionalism, keeping candidates, clients, and colleagues aligned, informed, and well represented at every level.
- Run to a process and protect momentum, closing loops with disciplined follow-up so that a search never quietly drifts.
- Show tenacity and resilience, staying warm, persistent, and accurate through the long, quiet stretches of a search, owning outcomes and never mistaking activity for progress.
- Put AI and our research tools to work on the routine parts of a search, and spend the time they free on judgment and relationships.
- Bring creativity to the search, finding candidates, angles, and approaches others miss, and testing new ideas when the obvious sources run dry.
- Seek out and deploy best practices in all that they do, and stay intrinsically motivated to sharpen their judgment over time.
- Take a real interest in how technology businesses and their leaders work, and keep a finger on the pulse of the sector, its key clients, and where talent is moving.
