We are seeking an experienced Certified Executive Housekeeper with IEHA credentials to lead our Environmental Services/Housekeeping team in a healthcare setting.
Position Summary
The Certified Executive Housekeeper is responsible for overseeing all housekeeping and environmental services operations within our healthcare facility. This role ensures a clean, sanitary, and safe environment that supports infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and excellent patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Environmental Services/Housekeeping department in all assigned areas (patient rooms, treatment areas, operating/support areas, public spaces, offices, etc.).
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate housekeeping staff; provide ongoing education on cleaning protocols, safety, infection prevention, and customer service.
- Develop staff schedules and daily work assignments to ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
- Ensure all cleaning and disinfection procedures follow hospital policies, IEHA standards, and infection prevention guidelines.
- Conduct regular inspections of patient and non-patient areas to ensure high standards of cleanliness, appearance, and safety.
- Collaborate with Nursing, Infection Prevention, Facilities, and other departments to support room turnaround times, isolation room procedures, discharge/terminal cleaning, and special projects.
- Monitor use and inventory of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment; ensure proper handling, storage, and PPE use.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including efforts to improve HCAHPS scores and other patient satisfaction metrics related to cleanliness.
- Assist with policy and procedure development and implementation within the department.
- Prepare and maintain basic records, reports, and documentation required for regulatory readiness (Joint Commission, state inspections, OSHA, etc.).
- Respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs, environmental incidents, and special requests.
Required Qualifications
- IEHA credentials (such as Certified Executive Housekeeper [CEH] or equivalent IEHA certification).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in housekeeping/environmental services in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or lead role (e.g., Housekeeping Supervisor, Environmental Services Supervisor, Executive Housekeeper).
- Strong working knowledge of healthcare cleaning/disinfection practices and basic infection prevention principles (e.g., isolation, terminal cleaning, contact/airborne precautions).
- High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework in institutional housekeeping, hospitality management, or environmental services preferred.
- Basic computer skills (email, MS Office, or similar) for scheduling, inspections, and reporting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with diverse staff and patient populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an acute care hospital or large healthcare facility.
- Familiarity with regulatory/accreditation standards (Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA).
- Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to [25–50] lbs as needed.
- Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals (with appropriate PPE) and a hospital environment, including patient care and isolation areas.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected pay range: $65,000 – $80,000 per year (approximately $31–$38 per hour), depending on experience, credentials, and facility size.
