Job Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the financial strategy and management of the organization to support sustainable growth, profitability, and operational efficiency. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO provides strategic financial leadership, oversees financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, and risk management, and ensures compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Within the coatings manufacturing environment, the CFO partners closely with operations, sales, and supply chain leadership to manage cost structures, raw material volatility, pricing strategies, and capital investments. The CFO plays a critical role in guiding financial decision-making, optimizing financial performance, and supporting long-term business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on financial planning, business strategy, and organizational growth.
- Develop and implement financial strategies that support the company’s long-term objectives and operational goals.
- Provide financial leadership in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, expansion initiatives, and capital investments.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Lead the company’s financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
Analyze financial performance and provide insights to leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
Monitor key financial metrics, including revenue, margins, operating costs, and profitability.
Develop financial models to support business initiatives and strategic projects.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial processes.
- Coordinate external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Cost Management & Operational Support
Partner with operations and supply chain leadership to manage manufacturing costs, inventory, and working capital.
Monitor raw material costs and support pricing strategies to maintain profitability.
Evaluate capital expenditures related to manufacturing equipment, facility improvements, and technology investments.
Cash Flow & Risk Management
- Manage company cash flow, liquidity, and financial risk.
- Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, and financing arrangements.
- Develop strategies to optimize working capital and improve financial efficiency.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee corporate insurance programs and risk management initiatives.
- Establish and maintain strong financial governance and internal control systems.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop the finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and financial discipline.
- Collaborate with department leaders to improve financial literacy and budget management across the organization.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related field preferred.
Certifications (Preferred)
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) preferred.
Experience
- 10–15 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- 5 years of executive-level financial management experience.
- Experience within manufacturing, chemical, or coatings industries strongly preferred.
- Experience managing financial operations in a manufacturing environment including cost accounting and inventory management.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, analysis, and corporate finance.
- Expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with manufacturing cost accounting and margin analysis.
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial management software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally walk through manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment including computers and telephones.
