ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervise and work with students throughout the building. Assist with assignment modification when necessary. On a rotating basis, provide supervision of and processing of behavioral needs of students, according to IEP specifications. Maintain a positive demeanor even when behaviors escalate or stressful situations occur. Supervise student transportation by riding the school bus or driving a District van. Duties may also include clerical tasks and other duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a high school diploma. Hold a Wisconsin DPI Special Education Program Aide License or be certifiable. Successful experience working with autistic students. Must possess basic computer and word processing skills and be open to expanding knowledge and skills. Ability to relate well with middle school students (aged 11-14) and staff. Self-motivated, well-organized, following specific behavioral plans, following directions, accepting redirection, and contributing to problem-solving. Must be able to assist students with physical needs (lifting, hygiene, etc.). Assist teachers in providing instruction to individual and groups of students, for example, model correct grammar and articulation, correct reading miscues, and modify and implement assignments for individual students under teacher supervision. Ability to self-monitor and prioritize the daily/weekly duties of the position with little supervision. Ability to provide daily written communication to parents. Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with special education and regular classroom teachers. Assist with one-to-one student instruction (under the direction of classroom and special education teachers). Ability to follow established procedures/routines with students, yet flexible and willing to implement new behavior systems when needed. Knowledge of/experience with/willingness to be trained to work with specific disabilities (such as autism) and behavioral interventions. Bus duty (riding the bus with students) may be required. Must be CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) trained or willing to be trained.
