Superintendent / Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Duration: 9 Months (Start: 4/27)
Type: 1099 Contractor
Position Details
- Hourly Rate: $60/hr
- Per Diem: $175/day (7 days per week)
- Completion Bonus: $150/month
- Pay Frequency: Weekly
- Schedule: Monday-Friday | 0700-1500 | 40 hrs/week
Project Scope
The Superintendent/SSHO will oversee all site safety and project operations for the replacement of a substation at the Navy Yard. This role will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal safety standards while coordinating field operations across multiple high-risk work activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- EM 385-1-1 Certification
- 5 years as a Superintendent on USACE/NAVFAC projects
- 5 years as an SSHO on USACE/NAVFAC projects
- Electrical infrastructure experience
Preferred:
- NFPA 70E
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct SSHO audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Oversee electrical work including:
- MV/HV systems, transformers, switchgear, terminations, and grounding
- Energized work (LOTO, arc flash, shutdowns, tie-ins/cutovers)
- Monitor civil work activities:
- Excavation, trenching, duct banks, concrete pads
- Manage rigging and setting operations:
- Crane picks, equipment placement and alignment
- Oversee high-risk work:
- Confined space, hot work, heavy equipment, working at heights
- Maintain and manage documentation systems:
- RMS/QCS, daily reports, AHAs, permits
- Support incident investigations and corrective actions
- Deliver safety training and orientations
- Collaborate with project teams to proactively mitigate risks
- Maintain accurate safety, incident, and compliance documentation
- Promote a strong safety-first culture across all levels of the project
