HER WAY

About the show:

Summoned home to her mother’s apartment in Kaoshiung, Jessica walks into an ambush: her mother, Anita, has stage 4 cancer, and a deadline. Anita wants to die with dignity by week’s end, and she wants Jessica’s help. As a typhoon locks the family inside, pressure builds, secrets spill, and love turns volatile. With her father, Gary, caught in the middle, this darkly funny, emotionally explosive drama asks: can a mother and daughter forgive each other before time runs out?

Currently casting for:

JESSICA, 30ish

Anita and Gary’s only daughter. She is half-Taiwanese and half-white. She is fluent in both Mandarin and English. Her Mandarin name is “Chen Yu.” She is smart, funny, and strong-willed. She is also overweight. Actors of East Asian background welcome to audition. Actors of varying body sizes also welcome! Actors do not need to be fluent in Mandarin, but there may be Mandarin words/phrases spoken.

ANITA, 60ish

Jessica’s Taiwanese mother, who speaks English with a noticeable Taiwanese accent. It is obvious she is not a native speaker. She is shorter than Jessica. She is plump but smaller than Jessica. She has a great sense of humor, but is also domineering.

Actors of East Asian background welcome to audition. Actors do not need to be fluent in Mandarin, but there will be a few Mandarin words/phrases spoken.

GARY, 60

Jessica’s white-American father. He has a great sense of humor. He hides his emotions. He is closer to Jessica than Anita. He is taller than both Anita and Jessica. He is also fluent in both Mandarin and English.
