Long Term Substitute: School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker

Shawsheen Valley Technical High School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute School Adjustment Counselor to provide social-emotional and counseling support to students from September 1, 2026 until November 24, 2026 (or no longer needed). The candidate selected for this position will serve as a member of the Student Support Services (Special Education) department and will play a key role in supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs—particularly those with counseling services outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position involves direct service delivery, collaboration with staff and families, and ongoing progress monitoring aligned with student IEP goals.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide direct counseling services (individual and/or small group) to students with IEP counseling services.

· Support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, social skills, and self-advocacy.

· Collaborate regularly with special education staff, general education teachers, administrators, and families.

· Participate in IEP Team meetings, including annual reviews and re-evaluations as needed.

· Monitor student progress toward IEP counseling goals and objectives.

· Develop and complete progress reports in accordance with district timelines.

· Consult with staff to support behavioral, social-emotional, and classroom-based interventions.

· Maintain appropriate case documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in School Counseling, School Adjustment Counseling, Social Work, or related field.

· Appropriate Massachusetts licensure (e.g., School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker).

· Experience working with high school-aged students and students with disabilities.

· Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and progress reporting.

· Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills.
