Role Description The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and school-related activities in Shawnee, OK. This full-time, on-site role includes performing daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, following designated routes and schedules, and adhering to all traffic laws and district safety policies. The driver maintains orderly conduct on the bus, supports students in boarding and exiting safely, and communicates any concerns or incidents to school administrators and transportation staff. Additional duties may include keeping the bus clean, completing required documentation, participating in safety drills, and attending training sessions and meetings as needed.
Qualifications
- Commercial driving skills, including experience with Truck Driving and holding a valid CDL Class B (with appropriate endorsements for school bus operation).
- Strong safety-focused driving abilities, including Defensive Driving and adherence to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and Communication skills to interact professionally with students, families, and school staff.
- Customer Service mindset, demonstrating patience, respect, and a supportive attitude toward students and the school community.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass required background checks, drug screenings, and medical examinations.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn district routes, emergency procedures, and student safety protocols.
- Ability to work early mornings and afternoons, sit for extended periods, and assist students as needed.
- Previous experience driving buses or commercial vehicles, especially in a school or childcare setting, is preferred but not required.
