Job Title: Crossing Guard
Reports to: Principal
Site: WILL ROGERS Elementary School
Qualifications
Credentials: None required
Education: High school, GED or equivalent experience is required in lieu of high school diploma.
Training or Experience Required: Prefer someone who is dependable and who has experience working with children.
Job Summary: Performs semi-skilled level duties under general supervision of the building administrator where assigned to assist students to safely cross the street at the assigned crossings. An incumbent in this position will interpret policies and procedures and follow predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies And Abilities
- Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Must possess communications skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries.
- Reading and interpreting: Reads and interprets routine written or printed material.
- Has regular contact with children, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians’ of students.
- Requires interpreting and translating of facts and information, explaining and advising students of the rules.
- Assist students with crossing streets to insure their safety and well-being.
- Must remain at crossing the entire length of time, as specified by the school principal.
- Must report to assigned crossing site on time and on bad weather days. Valid school closings, listed with the public media will be accepted as proper leave from assignment.
- Report any un-cooperative student to the school principal.
- Must wear school provided vest and use hand-held stop sign in order to be as visible as possible.
- Guards must never attempt to direct traffic, except in the case of an emergency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Successful performance of the job requires good people skills to deal with difficult situations, assist students with special needs, control difficult students and to resolve problems effectively.
- Requires following safety guidelines and policies in order that students are able to cross busy streets safely.
- Requires following school dress standards, being on time and being dependable, and handling other district requirements.
- Creativity. initiative, and effective problem solving are important.

Physical/Mental Requirements And Working Conditions
- Employee works part time and does not have to do any physical lifting.
- Must possess hearing/speaking requirement enough to communicate to students, parents, drivers, and others.
- Requires working outdoors with temperature changes.
