What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Project Manager position at Shawnee Mission School District?
This position is responsible for managing district-wide technology applications projects. This would include conducting, planning, and implementing various technical projects for the district. The position will collaborate closely with the technical team and various stakeholders to implement or upgrade various software systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned
- Develop and manage detailed work plans, schedules, and meetings.
- Gather and analyze requirements, set priorities, define schedules, manage project resources, and facilitate multiple meetings.
- Ensure consistency and adherence to quality standards in deployed solutions and track exceptions to follow up.
- Clarify and drive project commitment as well as establish and maintain clear chains of accountability, both inside and outside of the ICT department.
- Create custom queries and reports to assist users, provide information, and ensure efficient system operations.
- Continuously inspect it to ensure the progress remains on track with the district’s needs.
- Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
- Manage multiple IT projects simultaneously.
Education and/or Experience (required and preferred):
- IT Project Management - 5 years preferred.
- PMI/PMP Certification preferred.
- Experience in project leadership and delivery of multiple IT solutions into production, including implementation, and upgrades of companywide software systems preferred.
- High school diploma required.
- Graduation, or anticipated graduation, from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Previous experience in position or school setting preferred.

- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Proficient with collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Webex, and project management software.
Skills and abilities:
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and adherence to Board policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to compile, organize and analyze data.
- Ability to effectively write detailed reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, in relation to department duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to speak in front of large and/or small groups.
- Bilingual communication skills preferred.
