Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Lead Man to oversee and execute architectural sheet metal work in the field while leading a crew to safe, high-quality, on-time production. In this role, you’ll be the on-site point person coordinating daily work, enforcing safety expectations, communicating with supervision and other trades, and ensuring installations meet drawings and specifications. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance productivity, craftsmanship, and jobsite professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day field operations for sheet metal installation (standing seam roofing, ACM/composite panels, soffit/fascia, gutters/downspouts, flashing, custom metalwork).
- Assign work, set the pace, and keep the crew aligned to daily priorities and the project schedule.
- Coordinate with the superintendent/project manager and other trades to remove obstacles and maintain workflow.
- Enforce safe work practices and ensure consistent use of PPE and fall protection.
- Participate in and lead toolbox talks and jobsite safety communications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-aware jobsite.
- Interpret and apply plans, specs, shop drawings, and manufacturer details to guide installation.
- Verify layout, measurements, and installation tolerances; ensure finished work is watertight, true, and visually consistent.
- Identify issues early (site conditions, conflicts, material concerns) and escalate with solutions.
- Plan manpower and sequencing for efficient production.
- Track materials, hardware, and equipment needs; coordinate staging and deliveries to avoid downtime.
- Provide clear progress updates and document constraints, change conditions, and field needs.
- Operate and ensure proper use of hand/power tools, lifts, and specialty sheet metal equipment.
- Perform basic tool/equipment checks; report issues and support preventative maintenance.
- Train and mentor installers and apprentices; reinforce best practices and craftsmanship standards.
- Promote a respectful, accountable team culture aligned with Shawhan’s expectations and customer service mindset.
Experience
- 6 years in architectural sheet metal installation (or closely related exterior trade) required.
- 3 year in a lead/foreman/crew-lead capacity strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, shop drawings, and technical details.
- Proven knowledge of installation methods for architectural sheet metal systems and weatherproofing principles.
- Solid planning, communication, and problem-solving skills—able to coordinate across trades and keep work moving.
- Quality-focused mindset with strong attention to detail.
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 10 preferred; OSHA 30 a plus (or willingness to obtain).
- Equipment certifications (lifts/aerial, forklifts) are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/carry materials; work at heights; climb ladders/scaffolding; and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in extended positions for the duration of the shift.
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred (trade school/apprenticeship a plus).
